Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Konyakusha no Kansatsu Kirokunote, commonly known as An Observation Log of My Fiancee Who Calls Herself a Villainess.

A young woman is reincarnated as Bertia Ilbi Noches, the villain in her favourite otome game, in this period-romantic comedy Isekai light novel/manga series, which is told from Prince Cecil‘s point of view.

Contrary to other major characters of the same genre, Bertia actively brings about the end of her life. Cecil, who leads an otherwise uninteresting existence, finds delight in his fiancée’s pranks, but he gradually begins to pick up on real clues about what’s motivating her to become into a “villainess” and the harmful affects some dishonest people have on her, and he dutifully corrects things.

Since Bertia is the main element that adds colour to Cecil’s life, he must decide whether he will permit her to become the “villainess” she desires.

Shiki‘s 2-volume light novel, which had drawings by Hachipisu Wan and was serialised by publisher Syosetu in 2017 as a light novel, was then turned into a manga that was published in Alphapolis Web Manga from 2018 to 2021. The manga’s English translation was licenced by Alpha Manga in 2021.

Jishou Akuyaku Reijou na Tsuma ni Kansatsu Kirokunote, a sequel online novel that Shiki started in 2021 and is published in Alphapolis Novels, picks up six months after the previous series’ main plot.

Shiki and Hasumi Natsune started a manga adaptation in 2022, which was once more serialised in Alphapolis Web Manga.

Background story of this manga

Prince Cecil’s life is dull because of his exceptional intelligence. He doesn’t have many exciting moments in his days, although he does get engaged to Bertia, a marquis’s daughter. She says something to him when they first meet that is extremely puzzling.

She asserts that she is the “villainous heroine” in his life narrative! Bertia claims that she remembers her prior existence. She had previously performed the role of the “villainess” in a particular “romantic game.”

Her goal in her new existence is to excel as a villainous woman and sabotage the prince’s engagement. Bertia engages in a series of ridiculous actions that disrupt his life in order to accomplish this goal.

Every day is monotonous for Crown Prince Cecil Glow Alfostar, a born genius. For him, knowledge and talents come naturally to the point that nothing can hold his interest. This all changes, though, the day he meets Bertia Evil Nochesse, his fiancée and self-described evil, who never fails to disappoint him.

According to Bertia, this realm is like a “otome game.” She has been reincarnated as the villain, and it is her responsibility to obstruct Cecil and the protagonist’s connection. She enthusiastically embraces her position as the evil queen with mixed effects. She never shies away from fate.

Bertia’s apparently “bad activities” always come across as genuine and helpful, even though she is unaware of this.

Reviews about An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess

Review 1:

Another Otome Isekai with a modern touch is this manga. Yes, they always have a twist, but this one is that the prince, who is the “villainess’s” fiancé, is the one telling the story.

Until he meets Bertia, an utterly charming moron, said prince is a prodigy and utterly bored. Everyone else believes Bertia to be just delusional despite her claims that she can forecast the future to some extent and that she can recall the world they live in from a video game. However, the Prince prepares for the epidemic she predicted anyway because he doesn’t have anything exciting to do. It turns out that she was correct.

He starts to take her slightly seriously after that since he is certain that she is not joking.

Characters include the main character, the brilliant prince, the deadpan snarky and slightly bored prodigy, the foolish “villainess” who is just too benevolent for her own good, and the main character from the first game. No one of them is difficult to follow, and I never got tired of the plot.

This is a good book to read if you enjoy Otome Isekai. It is brief, hilarious, and leaves no loose ends.

Review 2

I frequently return to this series, which has really come to serve as a benchmark for other isekai/otome isekai. The plot’s goals are clear, the pacing is fantastic, and everyone’s characterization is humorous (within the logic of the fictional world).

Cecil, the prince and the heroine’s love interest, provides the narrative’s vantage point. He first encounters Bertia, the main character, when she is a young girl. She confesses to being the villain and swears to uphold her part for his benefit. The prince starts out as a cold, cynical young prodigy, but through their meetings and his developing interest in her, he begins to warm up to people and establish a network of friends and allies.

This character development is authentic since you can see what he thinks of Bertia from his point of view. He is surprisingly self-aware for his age (especially for a shoujo manga lead).

Since each of the supporting characters has a personality and an interest, they are all done fairly nicely. They are the main characters’ friends and show respect for them, but they also have their own romantic interests.

Since the series is so brief and you just get a glimpse of them, I wouldn’t say they are well-developed, but it’s enough to keep you interested and wish for their success. The fact that all the female faces are so alike is my one issue, though. You end up using hair to distinguish persons from one another.

Review 3

The fact that the plot Bertia forces them to follow makes logic is my favourite aspect. She is aware of potential possibilities and different endings if the prince loses. She acknowledges and accepts that this resurrected planet is her life and that decisions have repercussions.

Her determination pays out in the end because it was her, not Heronia, who succeeded in warming the prince’s heart, making everyone happier. I’d even add that being kind and doing good deeds for others is one of the themes. This is a straightforward lesson to learn, but hey, shoujo manga.

Needless to say, I heartily recommend this manga and expect to return to it in the future on numerous re-reads when I get tired of patiently waiting for releases of manhwa that have lasted for a very long time. One of the best elements of this narrative, in my opinion, is how it concludes.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom

When Katarina was eight years old, she had an accident that allowed her to remember playing an otome game that was exactly like the one she is currently doing.

Katarina is a girl of noble birth in a different planet. One issue, though: she understands that she’s playing the villainess and that nothing but horrible things are in store for her! How will she “break the game” and lead a fulfilling life?

Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter

After leaving work, Iris, an otome game junkie with no time for romance, is hit by a truck, but instead of dying, she wakes up in the world of a game she had just finished playing.

She isn’t, however, reincarnated as the game’s lead character or the harem’s major attraction. Instead, she begins her new life as the antagonist just as she is being ordered to spend the rest of her days in a nunnery!

My Next Life as a Villainess Side Story: On the Verge of Doom!

What if Katarina Claes didn’t remember her previous existence until she was fifteen years old when she was reborn in the dating sim from the first season?

Katarina has less than a year until she is destroyed, and she needs to figure out how to stop any negative outcomes!

The Villainess’ Butler: Death Flag Destroyer at Your Service

A unique tale about reincarnation! I, Cyril, have been resurrected in a new universe and have vowed to protect Lady Sophia, the antagonist in an otome game, from the numerous terrible tragedies that she is about to suffer!

She hasn’t chosen the dark side because I’ve taught her to be a decent young lady, but it appears that she has fallen in love with me.

And now that the game’s protagonist has appeared, everything I’ve accomplished is in jeopardy. Still, I’ll defy fate as her all-knowing butler and make Milady happy!

Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte

Crown Prince Sieg unexpectedly hears the Voices of the Gods one day. Evidently, Lieselotte, his fiancée, is a “tsun de rais” villain who will perish, and her sass is only a ruse for her to hide her embarrassment.

When the prince discovers Lieselotte’s lovely secret side, he can hardly contain his excitement. He has no idea that the celestial beings who have given him this wisdom are actually high school students!

Can he use their supernatural foresight to save his fiancée and avert a Bad End (let’s play commentary)?
