Story of Fairy Tail Anime
The vivacious Lucy Heartfilia in the enchanted Kingdom of Fiore has one wish: to join the legendary Fairy Tail, one of the several magical wizard guilds dispersed over the continent. Fortunately, she stumbles into Natsu Dragneel, the fabled guild’s “Salamander,” who whisks her away.
Fairy Tail’s strong mages have a little propensity towards mischief, from Natsu’s competitive shenanigans with ice wizard Gray Fullbuster to the ominous presence of the unequalled battle goddess Erza Scarlet. The total and unwavering trust that has developed between each guild member is stronger than family and has been forged through all the profitable odd jobs and adventures to prevent the end of the world.
Lucy teams up with Natsu, Gray, and Erza and finds herself working with some of the guild’s oddest wizards. But despite the fact that they are continually in the path of peril, one name keeps coming up: Zeref, the dreaded expert in black magic.
In search of his foster mom, a Dragon named Igneel, Natsu Dragneel encounters Lucy Heartfilia, a wandering mage, along with his closest buddy Happy, a blue, talking, flying cat. Soon after they first meet, Bora of Prominence, who is disguised as Salamander of Fairy Tail, kidnaps Lucy and plans to sell her as a slave.
She is saved by Natsu, who shows himself to be the true Salamander of Fairy Tail and to possess the abilities of a Dragon Slayer, a type of Lost Magic. She accepts his invitation to join the guild with little hesitation.
They form a team and work together to complete various tasks assigned to the Fairy Tail Guild together with the armoured mage Erza Scarlet, Ice-Make mage Gray Fullbuster, and Happy.
Characters appearing in the anime
The series’ main characters are members of the titular guild, Fairy Tail, and together, with to their strong magical abilities and esprit de corps, they make up what their other members believe to be the guild’s most potent squad.
At the proposal of the heavenly spirit Plue soon after Lucy’s enrollment into the guild, it originally consists of Lucy Heartfilia, Natsu Dragneel, and Happy. Later, following a number of cooperative missions, it also includes Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet. Carla and Wendy Marvell are regarded as team members as well.
Following are the important characters that appear in various episodes throughout the anime:
Natsu Dragneel
The series’ primary protagonist is Natsu Dragneel. He is raised by the dragon Igneel from an early age to become a Dragon Slayer, a magician with dragon-like physiology and abilities who battles dragons.
Natsu can breathe fire and ignite any part of his body to utilise when striking, and he can consume flames to fuel his strikes using his Fire Dragon Slayer Magic.
However, he gets motion sickness while in any kind of moving vehicle. After Igneel vanishes on July 7, X777, Natsu seeks for the dragon and joins Fairy Tail, where he ultimately develops into “Salamander,” one of the guild’s most deadly members.
Lucy Heartfilia
The primary female lead of the series is Lucy Heartfilia. She is a seventeen-year-old debutante from the affluent Heartfilia family who sets out on a quest to join Fairy Tail. Natsu Dragneel saves her from a slave trader who was impersonating a Fairy Tail member and going by the name “Salamander.”
She works on paid guild missions with Natsu and Happy to pay for her leased home in Magnolia, and she gets irritated easily when their disruptive pranks unintentionally lower their reward. At the end of the series, she releases her debut book, which is based on her experiences at the guild. She is also an aspiring author.
Happy
Happy, a six-year-old anthropomorphic cat with blue fur, is Natsu Dragneel’s lone travelling companion and best buddy at the beginning of the series. Happy has the supernatural ability to change into a winged cat and fly very quickly. This power is known as Aera.
He is the only ride Natsu can take in this form without getting motion sickness. He employs this shape to transport Natsu in the air. Happy is born from an egg that Natsu and Lisanna Strauss found before the start of the series, and they give him the name “Happy” since his birth ends a dispute the rest of the guild was having.
Gray Fullbuster
A brothers in arms relationship exists between Natsu and Gray Fullbuster, an 18-year-old ice wizard, as a result of their similar personalities and magical backgrounds. At the age of eight, the Etherious Deliora leaves Gray as an orphan. Ur teaches him how to use Ice Make, a power that allows him to instantly create ice in the shape of any weapon or object he can imagine.
Mashima based Gray’s habit of subconsciously stripping off his clothes on a personal habit of his own. After Ur gives her life to save him after he foolishly tries to murder Deliora, he joins Fairy Tail.
Erza Scarlet
Erza Scarlet, an S-Class swordswoman of Fairy Tail, is a nineteen-year-old who goes by the moniker “Titania” in honour of the Fairy Queen from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She is known for being the guild’s most powerful woman wizard. She instantly “requips” — exchanges and equips — numerous weapons and armours that modify her already exceptional strength and magic ability using a sorcery dubbed “The Knight.”
Erza, who is a slave in the Tower of Heaven and was abandoned by her mother, Irene Belserion, at an early age, makes friends with Jellal Fernandes, who gives her the last name “Scarlet” in honour of her red hair. She initially uses her magic while organising a slave uprising, but she is betrayed by a brainwashed Jellal and must flee the tower on her own.

Episode 1: The Fairy Tail
A seductive wizard called Salamander almost hypnotises Lucy Heartfilia, a heavenly wizard who wishes to join the Fairy Tail wizards’ guild, into becoming one of his fans. When Natsu Dragneel and his feline sidekick Happy approach him, they mistake “Salamander” for Igneel, a fire dragon they are looking for, and unintentionally save her.
Although Lucy pays for the two tourists’ supper as a gesture of gratitude, they feel obligated and vow to pay her back in full. Later, with the intention of smuggling Lucy and other young girls he has abducted, Salamander offers Lucy membership in Fairy Tail in return for an invitation to a boat party. Once more saving Lucy, Natsu and Happy reveal Salamander to be a fake named Bora.
Episode 2: Fire Dragon, Monkey, and Bull
Lucy is brought to the Fairy Tail guildhall in Magnolia by Natsu and Happy, where she formally joins the organisation. Romeo Conbolt, a little child, is overheard talking with Makarov Dreyar, the guild leader, about the disappearance of his father, Macao.
Natsu, who has his own father figure in Igneel, has sympathy for Romeo and decides to search for Macao on his own, bringing Lucy and Happy along. The three come into a Vulcan creature that resembles a monkey and kidnaps Lucy. Natsu chases after the Vulcan until it enters its cave, but is then flung outside into a gap.
To combat the Vulcan, Lucy calls in her bull heavenly spirit Taurus, but Natsu returns to the cave and kills Taurus after mistaking him for another creature.
Episode 3: Infiltrate the Everlue Mansion
As Lucy settles down to her new apartment, Natsu and Happy show up unannounced. Plue, a celestial creature who Lucy summons to show off her power, advises that the three wizards form a team.
Natsu deceives Lucy into agreeing to a job that necessitates her being employed as Duke Everlue’s maid in order to steal a book called Daybreak from its loathsome owner. When they reach Shirotsume, their customer Kaby Melon has revised the assignment to destroy the book and significantly increased the incentive to 2 million gems, they discover.
The three break into Everlue’s mansion and take the book after he rejects Lucy and disparages her beauty. But Everlue and his servants assault the three.
Episode 4: Dear Kaby
Lucy discovers that when Kemu Zaleon was imprisoned for three years in solitary confinement, Everlue coerced Kemu into writing the book for him. The duke calls Virgo, his monster maid spirit, after Lucy summons her crab spirit Cancer to battle Everlue.
To their surprise, Natsu also emerges beside Virgo after grasping onto her from above. After defeating Everlue and Virgo, Natsu and Lucy give Daybreak back to Kaby, Kemu’s son, who plans to burn the book to uphold his father’s dignity.
However, Lucy persuades him to preserve the book by revealing that it is actually a covertly written memoir by Kemu for Kaby. Natsu discovers that Kaby has no money, much to Lucy’s dismay, and she rejects the 2 million diamond incentive.
Episode 5: The Wizard in Armor
After a long absence, Erza Scarlet, the most powerful female mage and enforcer in Fairy Tail, rejoins the guild. The evil guild Eisenwald is trying to acquire Lullaby, a demon flute that kills everyone who hears its melody. To the guild’s surprise, Erza hires Natsu and Gray to assist her stop them.
The guild administrator, Mirajane Strauss, begs Lucy to prevent Natsu and Gray from fighting and enraging Erza. When the train reaches the village of Onibas, Natsu is unintentionally left on board and attacked by Kageyama, an Eisenwald shadow mage.
Natsu, who is unable to fight back because of his motion sickness, sees Lullaby just before his buddies come to his rescue. Erigor, the commander of Eisenwald, receives Lullaby from Kageyama with the intention of using the flute in an assassination scheme.
Episode 324: When the Fire Dies
Mavis admits that she still has feelings for Zeref even if she still hates him for what he did, and that her plan to overcome him is to embrace her love for him. When Mavis and Zeref fall in love again, their curse kills them both.
They then vanish into a pillar of light, utilising their life energy to revive a nearby Makarov. After Lucy completes editing the Book of E.N.D., which disappears along with Zeref, Natsu rejoins his buddies. As the group discusses their future plans, Natsu’s pals suddenly discover that he has disappeared.
Lucy sobs in sorrow, thinking that she has failed to save Natsu. Wendy spots a fissure forming in the sky while her group laments Ichiya and Anna’s death.
Episode 325: World Destruction
Natsu and the other six Dragon Slayers are sent through the time rift while Acnologia causes havoc over Earth-land after consuming the time rift’s magic to escape. Along with Ichiya, Anna is liberated. She informs the other wizards that Acnologia’s spirit, which remained in the rift to stabilise his newly acquired power with the Dragon Slayers’ magic, was split apart from his physical body by the temporal rift’s magic.
Acnologia makes an effort to imprison Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers in crystal while the wizards reunite with their friends in Magnolia. Hearing their comrades’ voices gives the Dragon Slayers the strength to escape and get ready to fight Acnologia with them.
Episode 326: Magic of Hope
Acnologia is a dragon that lives as a human doctor in the last 400 years. She is guarded by another dragon named Acnologia who departs to look into reports about Dragon Slayer power.
Later, when the mutilated guardian leads the other dragons in destroying the settlement, the doctor witnesses it in horror. In the present, Acnologia’s spirit is immune to magic, therefore the Dragon Slayers’ attacks have no impact on him.
In the meantime, Lucy comes up with a scheme to confine Acnologia’s mindless body inside Fairy Sphere, the only spell Acnologia has ever been unable to defeat. The other wizards use their power to entice Acnologia to Hargeon, where they plan to momentarily render him motion sick using one of Alvarez’s abandoned ships.
Episode 327: Hearts Connected
Acnologia, a human, masters Dragon Slayer magic 400 years ago in order to exact revenge on all dragons for destroying his home. He adopts the name Acnologia—a sign of his anger for his old guardian—after forgetting his original name, and eventually turns into a dragon.
Erza uses her weapons to ram Acnologia’s body onto the new ice ship that Gray and Lyon have built in the present. While Acnologia is affected, Lucy attempts to cast Fairy Sphere on him using all of Fairy Tail’s magic, but their combined might is insufficient.
As Acnologia starts to escape, Meldy uses her Magical Sense to combine the magic of the guild with that of the wizards in Ishgar, thereby containing Acnologia.
Episode 328: Dearest Friends
The strength of Fairy Sphere immobilises Acnologia’s spirit, allowing Natsu to slay him with the combined magic of the Dragon Slayers, which also destroys Acnologia’s body. The Dragon Slayers are freed from the time rift and reunited with their allies after Acnologia’s death.
An award ceremony for a book that Lucy wrote about her time at the guild is attended by Fairy Tail a year later. Lucy tells the story of how her friends’ lives have altered as a result of the conflict. The partygoers see two strangers in the crowd who resemble Mavis and Zeref, and they strike up a friendship with each other.
Lucy is tearfully grateful to Natsu and Happy for having an impact on her own life when they invite her on a work the next morning. This makes her think back on all their shared activities.
Reviews on Fairy Tail Anime
The plot was handled poorly in the series, which is perhaps the main criticism. Although this has been asserted about other series before Fairy Tail, the claim isn’t necessarily false. Hiro Mashima has acknowledged that he had virtually little planned out before the series initially began.
Actually, all he seemed to know about Natsu was that he was a rough concept of who he was, and given how the story developed, it seems improbable that he knew anything else.
Then there was the way the show dealt with Achnologia and Zeref, its two key foes. While the former was undoubtedly beautifully written, many of his actions—including secretly creating a whole empire—or even his peculiar rivalry and connection with Achnologia—were horribly conceived of or handled.
Zeref’s quest to acquire the Fairy Heart and his conflict with Achnologia formed the series’ concluding arc, but it was never made clear why they were battling in the first place.
The focus on friendship is one of Fairy Tail’s most enduring motifs, but it’s also potentially one of its worst. It’s usual for anime to have corny scenes designed to highlight the closeness of the characters, but when nearly all of their big conflicts are resolved in this manner, it at best gets immensely grating.
It isn’t a problem if it was utilised to save characters from a pervasive gloom, such with Jellal, as this served to explain some of the plot. However, it just becomes poor writing and narrative when the series’ final antagonist was invincible before Natsu delivered a speech about how much he loved his companions, and then suddenly becomes capable of striking a fatal blow that ends the battle.
Other anime recommendations similar to Fairy Tail Anime
Possibly the greatest shonen anime of all time is Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail contains everything an anime fan could possibly desire, including strong heroes who manage to pull through, eccentric characters with special skills, a hint of romance, and, of course, a story that emphasises the importance of friendship above all else.
Seven Deadly Sins
The Seven Deadly Sins, which is based on the same manga, centres on Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her interactions with the Seven Deadly Sins. Seven people make up the group—Meliodas, Ban, King, Diane, Gowther, Merlin, and Escanor—all of them have special abilities. Undoubtedly, Fairy Tail and this anime are the most comparable.
The Seven Deadly Sins collective is absurdly strong in its own right, each member having unique advantages and disadvantages. The group’s combined might and the strength of their camaraderie enable them to defeat formidable adversaries.
One Piece
Monkey D. Luffy, sometimes referred to as Luffy, serves as the protagonist of One Piece. He wants to unearth One Piece, a lost treasure, and use it to become the new King of the Pirates. Additionally, Luffy benefits from the Devil Fruit’s strength, which endows him with unique skills.
To fulfil his ambition of becoming the next Pirate King, Luffy sets sail around the globe with his ragtag band of misfits, the Straw Hat Pirates.
My Hero Academia
In the universe of My Hero Academia, abilities known as “quirks” are both ubiquitous and perceived as “ordinary,” whereas Quirkless people are rather uncommon. While some people choose to use their abilities for the greater good, others choose evil. Izuku Midoriya was Quirkless but had the heart of a hero and aspired to be like his hero, the enormous All Might.
As he attends the UA High School for superheroes in training, Midoriya develops into All Might’s prodigy thanks to the transferrable nature of All Might’s power, One-For-All. He makes a lot of oddball friends along the road as the class 1-A teams together to fight any enemies they come across.
Hunter x Hunter
Like in other Shonen anime, the protagonist is frequently an odd character with seemingly impossible goals. With Gon Freecss from Hunter x Hunter, this is the situation. He had always been informed that both of his parents had passed away, but he later learned that his father was still alive and had gone on to become a successful hunter.
Gon is motivated by this to find his father so he may become a Hunter himself and continue in his father’s footsteps. Kurapika, Leorio, and Killua are three other candidates who Gon makes friends with while taking his Hunter’s Exam. Together, the unusual crew sets off on several adventures, facing numerous foes but always triumphing over them.
Summary
The ability to call celestial spirits gives seventeen-year-old magician Lucy the ability to join a guild, but not just any guild. She has her sights set on Fairy Tail, a typically irrational and outlandish gang of magic users who are either inebriated or destroying cities and buildings while carrying out a task!
One day while in town, Lucy meets Natsu, a kid who is often seasick, and via a sequence of circumstances, he confesses to Lucy that he is the fire-eating magician Salamander from Fairy Tail! Finally allowed to join Fairy Tail, Lucy immediately starts working odd jobs for Natsu and his crew in exchange for fame and money.
